Frac Valve

Cactus Wellhead™ has engineered a frac valve product line that is specifically designed for the demanding conditions present in multi-stage frac operations. The results of these innovative features are more up time and less costly equipment repairs.

  • Improved gate design – minimizes sand build-up during frac operations.
  • Dual body flush ports.
  • Dual seat seal design.
  • Low-torque, ball screw operation.
  • Redundant stem packing.

Zipper Manifolds

Cactus™ zipper manifolds are engineered and designed to minimize our footprint at the wellsite.

The skid-mounted manifolds are 100% Cactus™ designed, flexible and tailored to location space conditions. They can be configured in multiple arrangements to minimize erosion and manipulate flow to multiple wells according to designed velocity, frac line size and characteristics of the wellbore.

Cactus™ horizontal ‘zipper’ manifolds can be completely assembled and tested at our branch facilities, minimizing field installation time. And, Cactus™ zipper manifolds are engineered based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of components to counteract the effects of sand and frac slurry erosion. Connections are positioned safely within reach and minimize the need for harnesses or manlifts. Manifold valves are positioned for optimum sealing and ultimate performance.

We stock a full range of tees, crosses, goatheads and flow back products that minimize rig-up time, improve safety, and enhance efficiency to lower operator costs.

SafeClamp™

The Cactus™ SafeClamp improves operational efficiency and personnel safety by providing a hands-free method for attaching equipment to the top of the frac tree. Unlike other hands-free devices, which use an axial retention method that can be prone to failure during operation, the SafeClamp uses an innovative breech lock design for retention. This design uses a single component as the primary locking mechanism with a secondary lock that automatically engages when the primary lock reaches its closed position. The SafeClamp uses an HMI control system for ease of operation.

  • Simple and robust primary locking mechanism.
  • Driven by a single linear hydraulic actuator.
    • Provisions for manual control in the event of hydraulic failure.
  • Secondary lock that auto-engages when the primary lock moves into the closed position.
    • Highly visible Cactus™ logo indicator that changes from vertical to horizontal position when engaged.
  • Large entry funnel to ease the process of landing the adapter pin.
  • Dual seals on the adapter pin with provisions for testing between the seals.
  • Cold weather operation capabilities through either electric heating or use of an anti-freeze fluid, such as methanol or glycol.
  • Redundant pressure transducers for measuring wellbore pressure to ensure that pressure is bled off before opening the unit.
  • HMI control for ease of use.
    • Proximity switches on the SafeClamp unit allow for verification of primary and secondary lock positions.
      • Software prevents the user from attempting to open the primary lock if the secondary lock is engaged.
    • Provisions for manual control in the event of HMI failure.

SafeFlag™

The use of hydraulic gate valves on manifolds and frac trees improves safety by allowing personnel to remain out of the hazardous zone during frac operations. However, the gate position, as indicated by the valve stem, can be difficult to determine from a distance and this can present personnel with a sense of uncertainty as to when (or if) the gate has reached the open or closed position. The Cactus™ SafeFlag addresses this issue by providing a highly visible indicator that changes orientation as the gate moves between the open and closed positions. The SafeFlag can also be installed on manual gate valves to indicate position, while serving as a complement to counting turns.

  • Can be installed over the existing Cactus™ gate valve stem on both hydraulic and manual gate valves.
  • Converts translational motion of the gate valve stem into 90 degrees of rotational movement.
  • Highly visible Cactus™ logo flag that rotates from vertical to horizontal (or vice versa) as the gate moves from one position to the other (open to close or close to open).
    • Flag orientation can be set based on customer preferences, e.g. vertical – open and horizontal – close or vertical – close and horizontal – open.
  • Flag orientation can be set differently for different valves.
    • Vertical indicates open for valves in the run while vertical indicates closed for valves in the manifold.

SafeInject™

With a focus on efficiency and safety, Cactus Wellhead™ has developed the Cactus™ SafeInject system which allows the user to grease valves on frac trees and manifolds while keeping personnel out of the hazardous zone.

  • Grease manifold skids are located close to the frac trees. This allows for the use of shorter grease hoses which results in improved grease flow to the valve.
  • A grease supply skid is located in the hazardous zone and connected to the grease manifold skids through the use of large diameter trunk lines to improve grease flow.
  • The HMI control skid is located outside of the hazardous zone and allows the user to manage the greasing of all of the frac tree and manifold valves that are connected to the system.
  • The HMI allows the user to define the frac trees by name and color with a graphical display of the customer’s frac tree. The HMI touch screen allows the user to select the valve that needs to be greased, as well as a manual or automated greasing process. It can also provide an overview of the greasing status of all of the valves.
  • Valves on idle wells can be greased while frac activities continue on other wells thus reducing, or even eliminating, NPT associated with greasing. Customers have reported improvements of up to 2 stages per day while using the SafeInject system.
  • A grease meter is used to log the amount of grease that is pumped to each of the valves. This allows for a more accurate indication of the amount of grease that is pumped when compared to the standard practice of counting pump strokes.
  • Valves using the SafeInject system are equipped with Cactus™ large bore grease fittings, which further help to improve grease flow.

SafeLink®

The Cactus™ SafeLink® system provides a large bore flow path to each of the wells, thus eliminating the need for frac iron between the zipper manifold and the frac trees. Instead of a conventional zipper manifold, the SafeLink® system uses a site-specific header configuration that allows the customer to manipulate the flow to the wells. The connection between the header and the frac tree is made using a preassembled coupler that is easy to install and remove due to the use of quick connect components.

  • Components are assembled in a shop facility and transported to site.
    • Improved rig-up and rig-down time on-site.
      • Saves hours in the event of a master valve change.
    • Improved quality and reliability as many of the connections are made in a controlled shop environment.
    • Improves personnel safety by reducing the amount of on-site assembly and disassembly.
  • Declutters the well site and allows for closer spacing between wells.
    • Allows for unconventional well site geometries.
  • Adjustable system components that can address header spacing and well height issues.
  • Increased pump rate capability when compared with conventional frac iron.
    • Galleries in flow turning components for reducing erosion associated with turbulent flow.
  • Valves in the header section that allow for flow manipulation.
    • Minimizes the amount of sand that precipitates out of frac fluid in stagnant areas.
  • Available in 7-1/16 10M, 7-1/16 15M and 5-1/8 15M configurations.
